PML Applications delivers global training courses

30 September 2019

PML Applications is working with the intergovernmental European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), to provide training courses on using satellite-based ocean observation Sentinel-3 data from Copernicus, a European system for monitoring the Earth using satellites and in situ sensors.

The courses delivered by PML Applications, take place across the globe and are aimed at students, early career scientists and experienced scientists with an interest in working with the Sentinel-3 satellite data. This data results from the satellite systematically measuring Earth’s oceans, land, ice and atmosphere to monitor and understand large-scale global dynamics and provides essential information in near-real time for ocean and weather forecasting.
Course participants learn the underlying principles of ocean remote sensing, how to access relevant data, and how to work with it using various open source tools. This is usually broken down into an initial online phase, followed by a classroom phase with presentations and a practical project selected by the students.
Upcoming courses in 2019 include:

  • IOCCG and SIO Advanced Training Course on Ocean Colour Remote Sensing in Hangzhou, China from 24 – 31 October 2019 (registration now closed).

  • GMES & Africa and Copernicus Marine Earth Observation Training Course which will take place in Zanzibar, Tanzania from 12 - 20 November 2019 (registration now closed).

The programme for 2020 is currently being finalised. For information on future courses please see the EUMETSAT training Moodle platform: For any questions on PML Applications Satellite expertise please contact:
