PML Applications’ Marine Maintenance Engineer, Alex Snowball, is a member of the delivery team, working on projects across our centres to provide hands-on support.

Alex’s role includes:
• Maintaining existing structures and equipment
• Developing new operational mechanics
• Facilitating and commissioning new equipment
• Assisting colleagues in data collection

After a career with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, Alex is excited to work for PML Applications, contributing to our values of positive environmental impact and ocean sustainability.

Alex began his further education at Duchy College, where he studied Environmental Management. It was during this time that he developed a strong interest in environmental science and the importance of understanding and protecting our natural environment. Alex’s love for the sea was inspired from an early age by his Mum’s passion for the beach.

He went on to complete a degree in Fashion Design at Plymouth College of Art, developing a broad range of practical and creative skills, including design, materials, manufacturing, and problem-solving.

Following on from his degree, Alex joined the Royal Fleet Auxiliary as a Marine Engineer, where he spent seven years developing his engineering knowledge and practical experience. Working in a demanding marine environment allowed him to develop a strong understanding of engineering principles, maintenance, and working as part of a team.

Alex’s role at PML Applications brings together his varied background in environmental science, design, and engineering. He is looking forward to developing his engineering knowledge further within a shore-based environment while contributing to work that connects engineering with environmental research.

Outside of work, Alex enjoys spending time with his partner and their dog.
