What does an environmental consultant do on a daily basis?
If you work as an environmental consultant, you can be certain your daily tasks will be varied. Our range of environmental consultancy services includes conducting surveys, analysis and trials in a broad range of areas. We have expertise in biofouling research, in-water hull cleaning tests, corrosion monitoring, Earth Observation data collection and analysis, marine autonomy, mCDR (marine carbon dioxide removal), natural capital, and habitat restoration. We assist with tasks such as:

How many hours do environmental consultants work?
Environmental consultants at PML Applications work a typical work week of 37 hours. Fieldwork days may be longer or require flexible start times but in return colleagues will accrue flexible leave to take when they choose. The working day is flexible, provided hours are fulfilled. Some staff also travel to attend conferences and client meetings, which means hours can vary. If there is a project deadline, overtime may be offered and can then be claimed for additional pay or taken as flexible leave.
What is the average salary of an environmental consultant?
The salary of an environmental consultant varies depending on experience level and position. At PML Applications, we offer additional employee benefits such as performance-related rewards, 30 day holiday allowance (excluding bank holidays), condensed hours, flexible working, free car parking, company pension scheme, and life assurance.
What skills should an environmental consultant have?
An environmental consultant in our team usually has a combination of practical skills and computer-based skills. The ability to use spreadsheets such as Excel is often desirable for data analysis, combined with skills in writing reports. Experience in fieldwork or other related practical skills is often sought after. The most important factors are an eagerness to learn, a positive attitude, and a willingness to get involved!
At PML Applications, our team members have a range of specialisms; some of these skills were developed while working here, while others were specifically hired for their existing skillset.
Employees are usually educated to degree level or have equivalent industry experience, with some obtaining a Master’s degree or PhD.
