Dr Dimitrios Kaloudis

Dimitrios brings over 15 years of applied research expertise to his role at PML Applications as the Manager of the Centre for Environmental Solutions, working with clients ranging from start-ups to large corporations and government departments.

Dimitrios is a highly interdisciplinary scientist with contributions in the fields of:

• Microalgae
• Wastewater treatment
• Biofuels
• Biofilms
• Anti-fouling coatings
• Microplastics
• Nature-based solutions
• Natural capital
• eDNA

He has significant experience in environmental microbiology, nature-based solutions, method development, experimental design and business development in the marine and aquatic sector.

Dimitrios loves an intellectual challenge, especially designing projects to answer clients’ questions in the most simple, cost-efficient and scientifically robust way. During his time with PML Applications Ltd., Dimitrios has led the development and incorporation of a plethora of new capabilities including biofilm analysis, microplastics, natural capital, nature-based solutions, nature restoration, eDNA and marine spatial planning.

Through focus on technical excellence, top-level recruitment and great customer service, Dimitrios has overseen a period of rapid growth in the Centre for Environmental Solutions and PML Applications overall.

Dimitrios’ PhD focused on “Improving microalgae for biofuel production’ (2014, University of Bath) and followed a BSc Marine Biology (2010, First Class Hons) with the University of Plymouth.

In his little spare time left after work, being a father and renovating an old cottage, Dimitrios is a keen free-diver and volunteer for environmental charities. He is always up for an outdoor adventure, a good BBQ, a philosophical discussion, and spending quality time with his friends and family.
