Applied Research Assistant at PML Applications, Michael Day works for the Centre for Environmental Solutions, supporting multi-disciplinary projects for a range of clients, improving quality, access and usage of data and evidence in the marine sector. His expertise is in natural capital and the development of novel methodologies for assessing marine ecosystem services.

Michael’s experience includes:

• Marine Monitoring & Ecological Surveys

His active and past collaborations include organisations such as Natural England, JNCC and the Environment Agency. In particular, he worked on projects to update the uASM with the JNCC and reviewed eDNA monitoring methodologies for the Environment Agency, applying his expertise in systematic evidence reviews and complex data analysis.

Throughout his early career, Michael organised, conducted and led over 50 ecological surveys relating to water quality, marine mammals, bioacoustics and noise pollution. Although his experiences are predominantly in the marine sector, he has supported work in the terrestrial environment, linking to population dynamics and movement patterns.

Michael’s academic achievements include MSc Marine Conservation (First Class Honours, University of Plymouth) and BSc Tropical Biology (First Class Honours, University of Nottingham). Through his studies and work with NGOs, Michael has contributed to marine research and conservation projects in Malaysia, Mexico and Greece.
